1825-1830 - born Ohio according to the 1860, 1870, 1880  census

1847 - married his first wife Catherine approx. 1847

1850 - There was a B. Briley living in St. Louis, Missouri.  His age was 32 (birthdate would be 1818) & his occupation was laborer.  Wife Catherine age 32, two daughters:  Mary - age 3 (born 1847), Josephine - age 1(born 1849)

Although the 1850 census gave the birthplaces for the adults as Baden & Hanover there is the possibility that that is incorrect.  I don't know if it means Baden Germany or the section of St. Louis that is called Baden.   And there was also a Hanover Station in JeffCoMo.

1858 - estimated death date of 1st wife

1860 - Benjamin Briley was living in Bowles Township in Franklin County, Missouri in what appears to be a boarding house.  It gives his age as 30 (birthdate would be 1830), birthplace as Ohio.  He had two small sons with him:  James T. - age six, (born 1854) birthplace Kentucky;  John F. - age four, (born 1856) birthplace Missouri.

1865 - Benjamin marries second wife Elizabeth House Armon, (b:Tenn) Perry T., St.FranCoMo - 9 July 1865

1870 -  Benjamin & Eliza are residing in Perry Township.  It gives Benjamin's age as 40 (birthdate would be 1830), occupation farmer, value of real estate 175, personal property 155, birthplace Ohio.  His wife, Eliza, is age 39, birthplace Tennessee.  There are two Briley children in the household.  My great great grandfather, James T. & his brother John are not in the household & could not find them anywhere in St. Francois County in the 1870 census.  Catherine - age 14, (born 1856) born Missouri.  Laura B. - age 2, (born 1868) birthplace Missouri

1880 - the Benjamin Briley family is still residing in Perry Township, St. Francois County.  His age is given as 55 (birthdate would be 1825), occupation farmer, birthplace Ohio, birthplace of father & mother Ohio.  Two children in household:  Laura - age 12, born Missouri (b: 1868); Julia Ann - age 10, born Missouri (b: 1870)

1880 - Benjamin is in the 1880 census so he dies sometime after 1880.

Mary L. - b:       m: Mr.Wood         d:                 (in 1939 Mary Wood was living in Farmington.)

Children by wife #2 Elizabeth House (was married before to Mr. Armon):

Laura B. - b: 1868 Mo. - m: 30 Apr. 1885 Emmett M. Forshee - (found death cert. Emmett Forshee born 13 April 1865 in Mo., male, white, married, died St. Louis City Hosp. 6 June 1927) - in 1939 Laura Forshee was living in the state of Nebraska.

Julia Ann - b: 10 May 1870 near Germania west of Bonne Terre, Mo. - m: 30 Jan 1887 Thomas Van Parks & they resided on a farm near Chestnut Ridge - d: 16 June 1939 in Ste. GenCoMo - buried: Parkview Cem., Flat River (now called Park Hills), Mo. - death cert. gave maiden name of mother as House.  Julia had no children(as per obit)

For 30 years (1860 - 1880 censuses) the birth place of Ohio for Benjamin Briley seems to be consistent even if his birthdate isn't.

Some of the research on the Benjamin Briley family was done by Barbara Klinlesmith-Geisert. Also

1850 census for St. Louis shows a George Briley born 1825

1880 census there is a Wm. Briley living in St. Louis. Born 1825 in Ohio. Wife Nellie.  Children Wm.(b:Ill) & Walter Briley (b:Mo) & step-son James Kruger (b:Ill)
There are more Brileys in Barton & Vernon counties, Missouri.
