sassy.jpg (11891 bytes)Hi,  I have to tell you about what my smart little Sassy Cat has learned to do.  For my birthday this year Kelly (my daughter) got me a little table top fountain.  It has lilies and hummingbirds on it. It is sound activated and has bird chirping noises that can be turned on or off.  I decided the best place to put it would be in the bathroom on the counter.   Sassy became interested in it right away.  She watches when I do my hair, and put my make up on.  She discovered that when I put down the curling iron, the fountain came on.  So, every time I put down the curling Iron and it made a noise, the water would run in the fountain for about 15 seconds. She really watched that water for a long time, but seemed a little leary of it.Then she started putting her paw in the water when it would flow. Then she would shake the water off her paw. She learned very quickly that the fountain would not work unless I made a noise.  So every time I went to use the bathroom, she would make a bee line in there, jump on the counter, look at me and say very quietly," meow".  I would make a noise, the water would run in the fountain. When the water turned off, she repeated the process all over again.  I think she is a very smart kitty to figure all this out in less than a week.       Ruth Ann Hill  (Photographed: 2000)

New Kid.JPG (8938 bytes)I wanted to show off the new kid on our block. We haven't really decided what his name will be but we're thinking about "Lucky".  Our neighbor came by the house on a Saturday afternoon and asked if we had heard a kitten crying in our truck?  Thinking this was an odd question, Ron looked around the truck but saw nothing.  (He had driven the truck to the store and back that morning.)  Ron started back into the house but I kept talking with the neighbor, he went on to say that he had heard the kitten the night before around 10:30 and went looking for it with a flashlight. He said when he got close to the truck it got even louder and he was almost sure the crying was coming from the truck. About this time Ron came back outside and I asked him to raise the hood. He did so, and sitting on top of the engine near the carburetor was a kitten! As best we can tell, he must have gone to the store and back on the engine of the truck. It's a good thing it's a very short distance from home!  This poor scared to death little kitty is now living in our garage and in training to be Ron's new store cat. His kitty Boston never came after getting out one day.  It's been very difficult to get this kitty to settle down and trust us but he's improving every day and will be ready to leave for his new job. I guess we'll call him  ":Lucky".      Ruth Ann  (year 2003)

hans.jpg (14471 bytes)In this picture Hans is in a baby bunting beside a "Make do" Cabbage Patch Doll. This Hans Schultz Lowe Hill, he was our little Miniature Dachshund for 14 years.  He was an "only" puppy, no litter mates, given to me by my brother. We got him when he was 6 weeks old.  This dog was not a dog, he was a clown!  He did some of the  funniest things I've ever seen in my life and I haven't seen or heard any better dog stories since he died 7 years ago.   One I have to tell you.  We took him fishing with us one day, he liked to play at the edge of the lake and try to catch minnows.  He came up on the deck with   where I was fishing  and I didn't even know he was anywhere around me.  I cast my line, (loaded with stinkbait for cat fish) and it hung up between the boards in the dock.  I thought!  I jerked the line really hard and the line broke. Then I saw Hans.  OMG! He wouldn't have caught that stink bait and hook in his mouth, now would he? Oh yes, he did! We made a be-line for Larry Allen's office (Saturday afternoon) and he wasn't there. So we rushed him to Farmington to the Animal hospital there.   They X-Rayed him and sure enough, there was the dreaded fish hook embedded in his belly!  I cried!  I  felt so guilty.  The doctor told us to take him home till Monday and feed him lots and lots of ruffage in hopes he might pass it..   Well, I even gave him bran flakes and he ate those too.  Poor Hans all he did all week-end was poop.  Nothing came though, so to speak and on Tuesday he had to have surgery to remove the hook.  The doctor didn't know if he would survive the surgery as he was 12 years old at the time.  Well, he did and was around for another two years, till nature took it's course and the little guy passed away in  his sleep.   PS. I saved the fish hook the doctor removed, and the X-Ray.

This is the same kitten pictured above after she is older.  She just keeps getting cuter every day! Her tail goes from yellow and white to gray and white near the end, it's so funny. (May-2006)

Surprise!! The single kitten found a good home & before mama cat could be fixed she was pregnant again. The little guys/gals have their eyes open now! Poor Mom and family got wet during the storm last week. She had her kittens on one side of the garage behind some boards and there was so much rain that night that water came in between the bottom of the wall and the concrete.  We got her all dried off while she took care of drying the kittens. We moved them to a safe place (basket) but she politely moved them behind some boards against the wall on the other side of the garage. LOL! She's such a good mommy!  (2006)

2006

Just had to show you these two pictures. This is one of the puppies my daughter's Pomeranians had in early March. She sold him to a 30 year old female attorney who lives in Boston. She and  her mother flew to St. Louis, stayed at the Radisson Hotel Downtown St. Louis,  the two of them rented a car to drive back to Boston. The girl didn't want the puppy to have to fly. It might hurt him somehow. And somehow I think this little guy has it made!
