My my great, great, great grandparents were John & Mary Ann Henderson.  They were cousins and married in St. Francois County, Missouri in 1839. Mary Ann was the daughter of James Henderson,Jr., and her husband, John, Jr. was the son of John Henderson, Sr.  Mary Ann and John,Jr. resided next door to her parents and were the parents of four children.  John,Jr., died in 1847.  Before John died he purchased the property adjoining with that of his father-in-law and put it in the names of his children: George W., James M., and Elizabeth.  This indicates that John died before the birth of his fourth child, Almeda.  The children and their mother then resided with her parents.  Mary Ann remarried in 1851 to Robert M. Markham and moved to Carter County, Missouri.  It appears that her children remained with their grandparents in St. Francois Co. There are a lot of Markhams in Wayne County, Mo. which adjoins Carter Co. & even a Markham Spring.

Mary Ann and Robert had at least four children: Catherine, Jackson, William, Lucinda. Mary Ann & Robert were still alive in 1870 as they are named as heirs in Mary Ann's fathers estate.  But they no longer appear to be in Carter County & could not find them in the 1870 Missouri State Census Index. *Cousin Lin Johnson found Mary Ann & Robert Markham living in Green County, Arkansas in 1870 with their four children.*  It is unknown what happened to the family after that except for William Markham who came back to St. Francois County.

Children of Mary Ann & John Henderson,Jr.:

Elizabeth - Born 1843 in Missouri.  She married Wm. C. Murray in 1864 in St. Francois County, Missouri.

Almeda - Born sometime after July 1847 in Missouri.

They are pictured at right.  In the 1920 census, Randolph Township, St. Francois County, Missouri, William & Emma Markham & their son, Frank, are living with James & Margie Martin.  William Markham died in 1923 at age 67.  He is buried in Doe Run Cemetery, St. Francois County, Missouri. It is unknown at this time what became of his wife & son.
