Rev. George Washington Henderson

By: Esther M. Ziock Carroll

My great, great grandfather was Rev. George Washington Henderson.  He was born in St. Francois County, Missouri on February 14, 1840.   His parents were Mary Ann Henderson and John Henderson, Jr.
George must have been very close to his brother James as they purchased property together and named their first born children after each other.  In 1863 George and his brother James purchased the property adjoining the property of their maternal grandfather, James Henderson, and the property that their father bought for them before he died.  This was in Pendleton Township, T34N R5E SEC9.  James went to Illinois circa 1864 (but don't know where in Illinois).  In 1869 George and his brother sold their land and George also moved away from St. Francois County(where?).
George came back to the area as he married Emaline Lawson in 1876 in St. Francois County and they were still living in Pendleton Township in 1880.   (At this time George's nephew from Illinois was living with him).  Emaline was the daughter of Lyda Cooksey and Robert Lawson.
Rev. George W. Henderson died at age 79  in Lost Creek Township, Wayne County, Missouri in 1919. He is buried in Shook Cemetery. Emaline died in Iron County in 1926 at age 75.  She is buried next to her son, James, in Big River Cemetery, Irondale, Washington County, Mo.
