"After an illness of several months, William Albert Wilson, known as "Ab" in this county, passed away at his home
near Potosi on January 25, 1930, of pneumonia. Mr. Wilson was 59 years, 3 months, and 9 days of age. He is
survived by his wife and three children, James, Dave, and George all of Potosi, Grand-children, one brother, Tom
Wilson, and one sister Celia Perry of St. Louis, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the 4-
Shono Baptist Church Monday by Elder C. D. Crites, and burial was in the old Baptist cemetery."
The "Old Baptist cemetery" is now called the Rabbit Hollow cemetery. No stone for William A. Wilson was found in

"Thomas H. Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wilson was born June 7, 1884 and died Feb. 18, 1944. He was 58
years, 8 months, and 11 days of age. He was united in marriage to Bertha Gilbert on Oct. 17, 1915 and to this union
seven sons and three daughters were born. Three preceded him in death. He joined Liberty Baptist Church. He is
survived by his wife and seven children: Albert Wilson in service overseas, Elsworth Wilson, Ivan, Murele, David,
Imogene and Velda and five grandchildren and a host of relatives. Funeral services were held by Eld. Chester Turner
at the Breton Creek Baptist church at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20. Burial was in the Potosi Masonic cemetery with Sparks

Notes for RANEY H. STROUP:
Raney H. Stroup, of Potosi, passed away Friday, February 7, 2003, at the Washington County Memorial Hospital
having reached the age of seventy-eight years and four days. He was born February 3, 1925, at Quaker, Missouri to
Fred and Estella (Wilson) Stroup.
Raney joined the United States Army on May 15, 1943 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri and served our country
during World War II. Mr. Stroup received the European African Middle East Theatre Campaign Ribbon, three
Overseas Bars and the Victory Ribbon.
On November 12, 1943 he was united in marriage to Ms. Velma Nelson at Potosi, and to this union three children
were born. Raney retired from John Deere in 1972, having worked there for twenty-five years. He then went to
work for Potosi City Street Department and retired from there in 1987. Raney was a member of the VFW.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Estella Stroup; brothers and sisters, Olan, Clyde, Perry, Harry,
Lloyd, Mabel and Ethel.

Among those who remain to mourn his passing from this lfe are his loving and devoted wife, Velma Stroup of
Potosi; a son, Steve Stroup of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Judy Edwards of Swansea, Illinois and Joyce
Majeski and husband Larry of Fairview Heights, Illinois; two grandchildren, Christopher Edwards and Tracy
Timmons, and one great granddaughter, Ashley Edwards. He will also be sadly missed by nieces, nephews,
cousins, other family members and many dear friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, February 10, 2003 in the Britton Chapel, Potosi, with Rev.
Leonard Compton officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were: Willie Skaggs, Cody Patrick, Bob Schledt, Ricky Arndt, Kevin Lyons, Gary Nelson
and Ryan Williams.
Interment was in the Redbud Memorial Gardens, Highway 8 West, Potosi, under the direction of the Britton
Funeral Home of Potosi.

David Thomas Wilson of Rt. 1, Cadet was born July 9, 1903 in Washington County, a son of the late Abe and Mary
(Litton) Wilson. He passed away July 27, 1979 in Farmington, MO., at the age of 76 years and 18 days.
Mr Wilson, a lifelong resident of Washington County was united in marriage to Alice Hannsel on June 24, 1924, at
Potosi, and five daughters were born to this union.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, Jim and George Wilson and two sisters
Martha and Mary Wilson.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are, (five daughters: Omah Lee (Mrs. Howard Yarbrough) of St. Louis,
Beulah (Mrs. Albert Piper) of Rt. 2, Cadet, Geraldine (Mrs. Charles Grissom) of St. Louis and Jackie (Mrs. Leo
Boyer) of Rt. 1, Cadet; 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and many other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 30, at Sparks Chapel, Potosi, with Eld. Jim Tollison
officiating. Interment was in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Rt 1, Potosi, under the direction of Britton Bros. (Sparks)
Funeral Home, Potosi.
