Potosi City Cemetery

Potosi City Cemetery1.JPG (31259 bytes)

Potosi City Cemetery is in foreground & going to the right of the picture. There are very
few tombstones left in the City Cemetery.
Moses Austin's tomb is at left under the pavilion.   Taken from Breton street looking toward High Street (Hwy.8).

In 1831 William Milam proposed to donate to the citizens of Potosi a lot between Breton & High Streets for a cemetery & subscription was at once commenced to raise funds to clear & fence the lot..........On the 29th of March 1842 a meeting of the subscribers was held.....a deed was obtained & the lot afterward cleared & fitted up for a cemetery.  It adjoins the Presbyterian Church & also the cemetery...........belonging to the Masonic Hall Association.
