Tennyson Family History
From Goodspeed's History of Washington County, (1888 Reprint) pg. 1016 - William H. Tennyson is the son of Archibald & Ruth (Jones) Tennyson both born near Murfresboro, Tenn. where they grew up & were married. After living in that state for some time they came to Washington County, Mo. where the father followed agricultural pursuits for a period, although previous to coming to this state he had followed the tailor's trade. The mother was a member of the Christian Church. Mr. Tennyson was a democrat in politics, & lived to be about 80 years of age. The mother, who was always very delicate, is still living, & is 82 years of age. William H. was one of a family of seven children, four sons & three daughters, & was born at the Old Mines of Washington County , in 1840. He received a very limited education, & at the age of eighteen began as an independent farmer. During the war he served in the Eighth Provisional Regiment, & was also for a time in the State service. In 1863 he married Miss Mary J. Bressie, a native of St. Francois County, Mo. & to them were born two children: William Y. & Malinda J. For forty-eight years Mr. Tennyson has been a resident of this county, & is accounted a good farmer. He is a Democrat in politics & he, his wife & two children are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Their son, William Y., is treasurer of Howard County, Tex., having been twice appointed to that position by the county court before he was twenty-two years old.
pg. 1009 - John P. Ramsey - Married Miss Permelia A. Tennyson, ( in Wash. Co. Mo.) - daughter of Solomon Tennyson. She was born in Rutherford County, Tenn. in 1823 & came with her parents to this county in 1830.........
From History of Bellevue Valley, pg. 627 - Allen Montgomery Goforth married Permelia Henderson [daughter of Amanda Tennyson & Amariah Henderson]. Permelia was a descendant of the wife of President John Adams.......
I have another reference that states that Amanda Tennyson is a relative of Pres. John Adams but I can't find it right now........

Esther, thanks very much for the response. I have the Tennison's exactly as mentioned in tghe Goodspeed's History. What I didn't have was the actual Goodspeed's History of Washington County extract. That was a nice addition that I can add to my collection. I have the following children to Permilia and John Ramsey-William B. Ramsey, Ollie Ramsey, and Pleasant Theodore Ramsey. Also, they are in the 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 Washington Co census.
